Abstract— In experiments with the non-photoreactivable yeast Candida guilliermondii , radiations at 313, 334 and 365 nm, having no effect on untreated cell populations, produced an 'enhancing' effect on the lethality of 254 nm-pretreated cells. We consider the nonanalytic temperature dependences of the specific heat coefficient, C(T)/T, and spin susceptibility, chi(s)(T), of 2D interacting fermions beyond the weak-coupling limit. We demonstrate within the Luttinger-Ward formalism that the leading temperature dependences of C(T)/T and chi(s)(T) are linear in T, and are described by the Fermi liquid theory. We show that these temperature dependences are universally determined by the states near the Fermi level and, for a generic interaction, are expressed via the spin and charge components of the exact backscattering amplitude of quasiparticles. We compare our theory to recent experiments on monolayers of He3.  相似文献

We study the nature of the ground state of the two-dimensional extended boson Hubbard model on a square lattice by quantum Monte Carlo methods. We demonstrate that strong but finite on-site interaction U along with a comparable nearest-neighbor repulsion V result in a thermodynamically stable supersolid ground state for densities larger than 1/2, in contrast to fillings less than 1/2 or for very large U, where the checkerboard supersolid is unstable towards phase separation. We discuss the relevance of our results to realizations of supersolids using cold bosonic atoms in optical lattices.  相似文献

We study the effects of the RKKY interaction between magnetic impurities on the mesoscopic conductance fluctuations of a metal ring with dilute magnetic impurities. At sufficiently low temperatures and strong magnetic fields, the loss of electron coherence occurs mainly due to the scattering off rare pairs of strongly coupled magnetic impurities. We establish a relation between the dephasing rate and the distribution function of the exchange interaction within such pairs. In the case of the RKKY exchange interaction, this rate exhibits 1/B(2) behavior in strong magnetic fields. We demonstrate that the Aharonov-Bohm conductance oscillations may be used as a probe of the distribution function of the exchange interaction between magnetic impurities in metals.  相似文献

Lévy flights in steeper than harmonic potentials have been shown to exhibit finite variance and a critical time at which a bifurcation from an initial monomodal to a terminal bimodal distribution occurs (Chechkin et al., Phys. Rev. E 67:010102(R) (2003)). In this paper, we present a detailed study of Lévy flights in potentials of the type U(x)∝|x| c with c>2. Apart from the bifurcation into bimodality, we find the interesting result that for c>4 a trimodal transient exists due to the temporal overlap between the decay of the central peak around the initial δ-condition and the building up of the two emerging side-peaks, which are characteristic for the stationary state. Thus, for certain system parameters there exists a transient trimodal distribution of the Lévy flight. These properties of Lévy flights in external potentials of the power-law type can be represented by certain phase diagrams. We also present details about the proof of multimodality and the numerical procedures to establish the probability distribution of the process.  相似文献

A full set of carbon-carbon coupling constants have been calculated at the SOPPA level in the series of six most representative propellanes. Special attention was focused on spin-spin couplings involving both bridgehead carbons, and these data were rationalized in terms of the multipath coupling mechanism and hybridization effects. Many unknown couplings in the propellane frameworks were predicted with high reliability.  相似文献

We consider the motion of a particle in a periodic two dimensional flow perturbed by small (molecular) diffusion. The flow is generated by a divergence free zero mean vector field. The long time behavior corresponds to the behavior of the homogenized process - that is diffusion process with the constant diffusion matrix (effective diffusivity). We obtain the asymptotics of the effective diffusivity when the molecular diffusion tends to zero.  相似文献

We consider thermodynamic and transport properties of a long granular array with strongly connected grains (intergrain conductance g>1). We find that the system's conductance and differential capacitance exhibits activated behavior, approximately exp([-T(*)/T]. The gap T(*) represents the energy needed to create a long single-electron charge soliton propagating through the array. This scale is parametrically larger than the energy at which conventional perturbation theory breaks down.  相似文献

Magnetic properties of various C60 polymers are calculated using tight-binding molecular-dynamics and ab initio methods. Our results suggest a mechanism involving an interplay between structural defects and sp(3) hybridization to be responsible for the origin of this magnetism. The onset of magnetism is found to occur much more readily for the Rh-C60 polymeric phase with defects than for any of the other polymers, in agreement with the recent experiment. Our estimate of the magnetic moment is also in very good agreement with the value observed in experiment.  相似文献

This paper describes the effect and gives the theory of magnetic propulsion which allows driving free surface plasma facing liquid lithium streams in tokamaks. In the approximation of a thin flowing layer the MHD equations are reduced to one integrodifferential equation which takes into account the propulsion effect, viscosity, and the drag force due to magnetic pumping and other interactions with the magnetic field. A stability criterion is obtained for stabilization of the "sausage" instability of the streams by centrifugal force.  相似文献
